The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law...
- Motto: Be Prepared
- Slogan: Do a Good Turn Daily
- Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight
- Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent
Boy Scouts prove themselves in an environment that challenges their courage and tests their nerve. After they've been given the proper guidance from those with experience and know-how, they take their own lead, going places they've never gone, seeing things they've never seen, and diving into the rugged world of outdoor adventure, relying on teamwork and character to accomplish what everyone else thinks is impossible.
A little history...
Coatesville Boy Scout Troop 117 was first chartered in October of 1981. Our chartering organization has always been the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. The church provides us with a generous place to meet on a weekly bases and provides us storage room for troop gear. When we began, our troop had 7 scouts, under the direction of the first Scoutmaster, Dave Jansen. Since then, our troop has grown and now averages about 20 scouts. We are proud to say that our troop has produced 63 Eagle Scouts!
Troop 117 values civic engagement through volunteering to benefit several local organizations such as the Chester County Food Bank, Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery, and the Coatesville Veterans Hospital.
Our troop consists of a well-rounded group of scouts. We pride ourselves on fostering an environment of fun, outdoorsmanship, and camaraderie. We are blessed with a strong cadre of adult leaders and a highly supportive Troop Committee.
Troop 117 welcomes visits from prospective scout and adult members, as well as WEBELOS during any Wednesday Regular Meeting. Use the Contact Form on this website to contact us and/or for more information.
